TUTORIAL: Valentine's Roses

Seeing as Valentine's Day is next weekend, I thought I'd make a lil tutorial for this easy, rose-tipped nail art.

The great thing about this design is it doesn't have to perfect - no two flowers are the same & this doesn't involve intricate detailing for the petals. This was actually one of the first designs I ever taught myself so I'm to all you nail-art newbies, you should be fine!

Full steps & product details are below:

1. My nails grow like mad but I always think this design looks better on shorter nails with a smaller tip, so I gave mine a little cut to start.

2. You'll want to file your nails so they're nice & even - make sure to use the length of your file & go in one direction. DO NOT GO BACK & FORTH! This'll damage your nails. They are not acrylics, these are your natural nails that you need to show love & attention.

3. Buffing your nails is going to help with any ridges, plus it'll make them shiny! Again, make sure to go in one direction.

4. Cuticles suck! They're just dead skin that stop your nails from growing so to help get rid, rub an oil or remover in to help soften them. I used the CND Cuticle Remover which I buy from beauty suppliers, Ellisons but you can also find it on Amazon.

5. Once the remover's soaked in, use a cuticle pusher to gently ease them back then cuticle nippers to cut them away. Careful to not cut too far, otherwise you'll give yourself a boo boo.

6. Use a base coat to avoid staining & protect your nail beds - I'm obsessed with OPI Nail Envy which helps keeps my nails super strong.

7. You can use nail art pens for your roses (WAH does a great range, available at Boots) but I prefer a brush so I can use whichever polish I please. A quick eBay or Amazon search will bring up tons of brushes.
Your roses can be whatever colour you fancy, just make sure you've got a lighter shade for the petals & a green for your leaves.

8. Being ever the girly-girl, I chose Rimmel 60 Seconds Polish in Ethereal as my base. Apply 1 coat, wait to dry, then apply a 2nd coat.

9. Taking your brush or pen, create small circles across your nail edge using the darker polish you've chosen - I used China Glaze in 'Naked'.

10. Clean your brush with nail polish remover then take your lighter polish & make the petal marks - I used OPI in 'Isn't It Romatic'. As I said, your petals don't need to be perfect - just make 'c' shapes & outline parts of the roses.

11. Now you've got your florals, you'll want some leaves - I used Cetuem in No.34. (side note: I discovered Cetuem at a beauty show a while ago & they're polishes are amazing, well worth a look!)

12. And you're done! Add a fast-drying top coat & you're good to go - Seche Vite is one of the best, but be aware, it can go gloopy so you'll want to buy the Seche Vite Restore Thinner too.
